Moldova 2007:

A small team from Donnybrook journeyed to the Eastern European country of Moldova in 2007, joining the local churches in sharing the love of Christ with the people, as well as meeting physical needs. The team was greatly encouraged, witnessing wonderful improvements in the orphanages, incredible church growth, and a tremendous hunger for God amongst ministry workers. Dave and Gary Wilkerson’s ministry conference took place during the trip, drawing 3,000 people, and blessed all with a simple message: returning to our first love, Christ. All in attendance were refreshed and inspired to return to their churches with a word from heaven. Please continue to pray with us that God would continue to set the captives free in this beautiful but extremely impoverished nation, and that His provision would continually meet the needs of the Moldovan people

Testimony by Maurice Forde

Having gone on last year’s trip to Moldova, I jumped at the chance to visit these amazing people again. Politically and financially Moldova has nothing to offer its people. To earn a living in this country is extremely difficult, and even if you could advance yourself financially the Communist government would do everything in its power to hold you back. The country is riddled with corruption. Land prices are ridiculously high, and in most cases the only real way for your family to have a life is to emigrate. There are many orphanages and many street children. Looking at this picture, Moldova seems extremely bleak. To the unsaved eye, Moldova has very little of anything going for it. However, while on the missions’ trip there we saw hope for Moldova, and that hope is Christ expressed through His church. Our mission team was based in Streseni, a 20 minute drive from the capital city, Chisinau. Pastor Nicolai and his wife Vereci lead the church in Streseni. They also work with many orphanages in the area. We were shown amazing love, kindness, and generosity by the pastor, his family, and the entire church. They do a fantastic work in the orphanages in teaching the children about Christ, and many of the church members were actually orphans who first heard of Christ through the church.
Another church we visited was in Cornesti. The pastor, Vateli, leads a small church that is a light in the community working with street kids, orphanages, and elderly people. They also run a small house where many young men live after having been saved from life on the streets and very difficult backgrounds. God has given visions to many of these young men to plant churches in the surrounding areas of Moldova. These young men were a huge blessing to me because of their humility and dedication to the Word of God. The church in Cornesti is currently trying to purchase a plot of land in the centre of town on which to build a church building and house for a small Bible school and a place to reach out to the community with the love of Christ.
While in Moldova we also had the joy of attending a World Challenge Conference where Pastors David Wilkerson and Gary Wilkerson brought a wonderful and timely word from the throne of Christ for the Church in Moldova. All who attended were challenged and blessed by the Word of God. There are many needs in the church in Moldova, and although the Body of Christ may not be perfect our hope is in the Head which is CHRIST!
I was greatly blessed while on this trip to Moldova. Please keep the people and, above all, the Church of this country in your prayers and in your thoughts with regards to mission offerings. May God bless you!
